CHARLES YU
Author | Screenwriter
"I've been writing fiction for over 20 years, and writing for television and film for almost ten. I can share my experience finding and developing my own voice, the difficulties in balancing a creative pursuit with a day job and family, and making the transition from part-time to full-time writer (and the challenges that arise when you do what you love for a living). I'll be candid about what it's been like for me, navigating the publishing world and, more recently, the world of development and production for TV and movies."
Charles Yu is the author of four books, including Interior Chinatown, which won the 2020 National Book Award for Fiction, the Silver Medal from the California Book Awards, and was longlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. He has written for shows on HBO, AMC, FX and Adult Swim, and is the creator and showrunner for Hulu’s adaptation of Interior Chinatown. His fiction and non-fiction have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, Harper's and Wired, among other publications. Along with TaiwaneseAmerican.org, he established the Betty L. Yu and Jin C. Yu Creative Writing Prizes. He lives in southern California with his family.
