KATIE BENNER

Reporter

The New York Times

Katie Benner covers the Justice Department for The New York Times, and she was part of a team whose reporting on workplace sexual harassment issues won a Pulitzer Prize in 2018 for public service.

She moved to Washington D.C. in 2018 to cover the Justice Department under former President Donald Trump. Her reporting often focused on his clashes with law enforcement and national security officials as he flexed presidential power in an extreme manner not seen since the Nixon era.

Before covering national security, Benner worked in The Times' San Francisco Bureau and covered Apple, venture capital and startups. She reported on the encryption fight between Apple and the FBI and investigated how tech employees chasing the Silicon Valley dream are short-changed by executives and investors. She also wrote about sexual harassment in the tech industry and the legal contracts used to keep that behavior a secret.
