You may only apply for ONE MENTOR. If you submit more than one application, we will only accept the last one. There is $25 non-refundable administrative fee to apply for mentorship. This donation helps offset the cost of processing applications and makes a meaningful difference in sustaining the program. Mentors are expected to share expertise, wisdom, guidance, and constructive criticism to help their mentees develop and advance their careers. Mentees should be humble, disciplined, grateful. Mentees are expected to respect mentor’s time and do their best to follow their advice. The mentor/mentee relationship should be based in respect, trust, communication. This is a strictly professional relationship. Mentees should not discuss personal issues as mentors are not their therapists. Mentors are not expected to advocate in any way on behalf of their mentee e.g. make introductions, write recommendation letters help secure jobs, etc. If they choose to do so, it is at their sole discretion, not at the request of the mentee. Mentees can discuss projects, but must not pitch them to their mentors. If mentees asks their mentors to engage outside of a call e.g. listen/watch/read a sample, that is considered part of the monthly hour. Mentees should prepare questions for each session to maximize the time. Mentees should schedule the meetings and send calendar invites. Mentees understand their mentors may not reach the target 12 hours in the year due to unforeseen circumstances, but will try to make up the time, pending scheduling. Meetings should be virtual, unless the mentor suggests otherwise. Brian was the Executive Producer and Showrunner of 13 Reasons Why for Netflix, Paramount Television and Anonymous Content. As principal of That Kid Ed, Inc., Brian is writing and developing numerous projects for Netflix, where he is under an overall deal, as well as for HBO Max, Charter, and other outlets. Beginning his music career as a DJ in Washington D.C. in the mid-90s, Guru went on to become what the Wall Street Journal dubbed “the most influential man in hip-hop.” While he is most known for his work with Jay-Z – with whom he won a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album for Everything is Love in 2019 – Guru has been a guiding force in the careers of the industry’s top recording artists. The very first show I was a DP on was Pimp My Ride. From there I’ve gone to work on a vast number of different reality shows and scripted shows, the most recent being Abbott Elementary. Through the years of working in the industry, I’ve had to overcome many obstacles and challenges in my line of work. Those lessons have ultimately helped me to be a better DP/operator and learn many things about myself personally. Take Every Wave: The Life of Laird Hamilton made its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017, a documentary film directed by Academy Award-nominated director, Rory Kennedy, and lensed by Alice Gu. THE DONUT KING is Alice’s feature directorial debut and was slated to premiere in the canceled 2020 SXSW film festival. Despite the cancellation, the film won the Special Jury Prize for Excellence in Documentary Storytelling, as well as the Best Documentary awards from the Sun Valley Film Festival, Bentonville Film Festival, Urbanworld Film Festival and Best Emerging Director at the 43rd Asian American International Film Festival. A feature-length documentary about the rise and fall of a Cambodian refugee turned donut tycoon, “The Donut King” is executive produced by Academy Award-winners Ridley Scott and Freida Lee Mock. Alice’s follow-up feature, REALLY GOOD REJECTS, premiered at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival. The film was produced by Academy-Award winning producers David Dinerstein and Robert Fyvolent. A loving look inside the magic of music, the film features prominent musicians such as Jackson Browne, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, Aaron Dessner of The National, and Phoebe Bridgers, among others. Alice was recently selected as a 2022 fellow of the prestigious Concordia Studios Fellowship, which was founded by Academy Award winner Davis Guggenheim. While developing several documentaries, Alice is also transitioning into the narrative space, developing a feature project with Scott Free Productions.   • CHRISTINA VOROS | Unlock Her Potential

    CHRISTINA VOROS Cinematographer | Director | Producer | Screenwriter Voros came to cinematography through directing and shooting her own award-winning documentaries, later pivoting to the narrative space on films lensed for Tate Taylor, Theresa Rebeck, James Franco and Tim Blake Nelson. In 2018, Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey tapped her to direct an episode of their series Queen Sugar, opening the door to narrative directing. She since helmed episodes for Tate Taylor (Filthy Rich) and David E Kelly (Big Sky), while primarily teaming with Taylor Sheridan with whom she collaborates on Yellowstone and 1883, serving as Director, DP and Executive Producer. She was recently nominated for an Emmy for Best Cinematography for a limited series on 1883 for her episode "Lightning Yellow Hair" She is currently in development on her feature film, Valentine, which she will write and direct, inspired by stories of the people and land of West Texas, where she resides. The only daughter of Hungarian refugees, Christina Voros was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts where she later attended Harvard University. She was granted the Dean’s Fellowship at NYU’s Tisch School of the Art’s Graduate Department of Film and Television where she studied under Spike Lee and Sandi Sissel, receiving her MFA in directing and cinematography.     FILM/TV ERIC OBERLAND Development Executive Amazon Studios Born and raised in Milwaukee, Eric migrated west in his early 20s to break into entertainment with an eye toward working on impactful storytelling. Eric currently is a Development Executive at Amazon Studios, working directly with First Look and Overall talent deals, including Riz Ahmed, Michael B. Jordan, and Carlton Cuse, among others. Prior to Amazon, he ran the Scripted TV Dept. of LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s The SpringHill Co., overseeing both development and production for six years. In his time at the company, Eric worked on shows such as Starz’ SURVIVOR’S REMORSE, Netflix’s TOP BOY & SELF MADE, and produced the “Career Mode” storyline for NBA2K20. Eric’s passion lies with working alongside tremendous creators and helping bring their stories to life. Prior to SpringHill, Eric worked in various capacities on-set for both scripted and unscripted productions, spent some time in post-production, and worked in Comedy Development at Warner Bros. TV.
